Starts at Parkwood Studios for a 2 hour in depth presenation, then hands on working at the Desert Botanical Gardens (Fees Paid for in your Tuition)

Are you wild about wildflowers?  Does macro have your brain in a big knot?

Join Colleen Miniuk-Sperry, the co-author/photographer of the recently published guidebook, “Wild in Arizona:  Photographing Arizona’s Wildflowers; A Guide to When, Where, and How,” and become one of the “poppy-razzi!”  This half-day session is aimed at taking your macro flower photography - and passion! - to the next level.

Through a blend of classroom and field-based sessions attendees will learn:

  • ·         Use a visualization-driven approach to identify a subject to help you record your personal vision beyond "just another flower" picture.
  • ·         Control your focus and manage short depth of fields through aperture, subject placement, and focus stacking.
  • ·         Seek out pleasing lighting conditions in the middle of the day and modify the light to help strengthen your visual message.
  • ·         Incorporate effective solutions for handling windy (and no doubt, frustrating!) conditions.
  • ·         Utilize artificial backgrounds to simplify compositions.

Bring any camera, macro or telephoto lens (extension tubes or close-up filters optional), tripod, cable release, reflector/diffuser, mat boards (black, brown, green, and blues work best)—and of course, your enthusiasm for wildflowers!
